The [Semi-Official] 2024 CJP Convention FAQ Page

Following last year’s extremely successful gathering in Nashville, CJP trades Music City for the Rocky Mountains of the western U.S. for the 2024 CJP Annual Convention. Below are some answers to frequently asked questions regarding this year’s event, which will take place Sept. 4-7 in Colorado Springs, CO.

Where Are We Going?

Located near the southern edge of the Rockies, Colorado Springs is surrounded by stunning natural beauty and has been described as the gateway to the West. The city began as a small mining town, but now counts itself as one of the top destinations in the U.S. for vacations and conferences due to its picturesque mountain backdrop and 300 days of sunshine.

Where Are We Staying?

The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs is the longest-running consecutive winner of both the AAA Five-Diamond and Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star awards.

First opened in 1918, The Broadmoor is also home to a variety of restaurants – including The Penrose Room, Colorado’s only Five-Star, Five-Diamond restaurant – as well as 54 holes of championship golf, six tennis courts, indoor/outdoor pools, distinctive retail shops, specialty tours, activities and programs for guests of all ages and interests.

CJP Members should remember that Colorado Springs is located at more than 6,000 feet above sea level, so be sure to plan your activities in consideration of the higher altitude.

Where Do I Fly To?

Colorado Springs Airport (COS) is less than 20 minutes by car from The Broadmoor, with Cutter Aviation selected as this year’s host FBO. Their facility offers a complete range of high-quality services and amenities, with a NATA Safety 1st certified and trained team of professionals dedicated to making your trip to the Colorado Springs area a pleasant one from start to finish.

Who’s Our Keynote Speaker?

Christian “Boo” Boucousis is CEO of the global human and organizational performance company Afterburner. He has revolutionized the way global leaders achieve immediate and ongoing performance leaps, replacing the outdated and unsustainable “high-performance” models. By connecting individuals with their human performance strengths and limitations, Boo navigates them towards a growth mindset and the skills needed to evolve both personally and professionally. His CJP keynote presentation, “The Fighter Pilot / Single Pilot Mindset,” will be Saturday, Sept. 7 at 8:00 am.

What Presentations Can We Look Forward to?

CJP strives to balance valuable information with interesting subjects at its Conventions, with a consistent emphasis on safety. This year’s offerings will be no exception, with the entire first day’s sessions devoted to safer Citation jet operations. That includes presenters Richard Meikle of FlightSafety International and Rob Switz, fleet program director at NetJets, joining CJP Safety Committee Chairman Charlie Precourt in a candid discussion about “The Quest for Safety.”

Thursday will conclude with the presentation of the annual CJP Gold Standard Safety Award & Citation Wings.

Friday will begin with the annual CJP interview with Textron Aviation CEO Ron Draper and updates from the company’s executive team. CJP member Luke Alcorn will then present “A Day in the Life of an Air Traffic Controller,” with fresh perspectives from his job at Jacksonville Center (ZJX), followed by presentations on the latest developments from CJP Platinum Partners Garmin, FlightSafety International, Collins Aerospace and Tamarack Aerospace. Attendees are then invited to participate in Breakout Sessions focused on their aircraft, engines and avionics platforms.

Following the CJP Keynote presentation Saturday, CJP Chairman Dr. Blake Curd will discuss the effects of hypoxia in his “Flying Healthy” presentation and CJP CEO Rob Balzano will delve into “Understanding TFR, SFRA and FRZ Airspace.” These will be followed by additional safety-focused presentations by Charlie Precourt and Master CFI Neil Singer.

We’ll Also Have a Chance to Let Loose a Bit, Right?

Oh, will we ever! In addition to the Sept. 4 Welcome Reception, attendees won’t want to miss Thursday evening’s party at the National Museum of WWII Aviation hosted by CJP Platinum Plus Partner Textron Aviation. That will be followed Friday evening by the annual CJP Dinner & Live Auction, featuring a return performance by auctioneer Harry Santa-Olalla.
