Remembering MossY

The CJP community continues to mourn the passing of Jeffrey Robert Moss, best known as MossY to thousands of light jet pilots who benefitted from his unique balance of jovial good humor with a steadfast commitment to safe flight operations, training and mentorship on the flight deck. MossY passed away January 13 at the age of 51.

MossY was the FAA’s 2010 National Certificated Flight Instructor of the Year and was typed on more than a dozen turbine aircraft, ranging from the Citation Mustang to the Boeing 787. He was an instructor and mentor pilot on the Mustang and Citation 525 Series, as well as the Eclipse 500/550, Pilatus PC-24, HondaJet and the Embraer Phenom 100 and 300.

In his LinkedIn profile, MossY wrote that he “brings airline tips, tricks and SOPs to the General Aviation Flightdeck.”

In recognition of MossY’s work with the Citation community, CJP members may make a donation to the CJP Safety and Education Foundation as a “Mossy Tribute” at this link, or by sending a check (indicate “MossY Tribute” in the memo) to:

CJP Safety and Education Foundation
PO Box 4304
Enterprise, FL 32725-0304

The funds will be used to further the initiatives of the CJP Safety and Education Foundation that work to provide safety and training information to engage with CJP members on methods and procedures for operating their Citation aircraft in the safest possible manner, and to share safety-related resources for use by its CJP members and the broader aviation community.

Those who’ve flown with MossY are further encouraged to share a brief note of their experiences with him. CJP member Ron Eisenberg has already collected several of these notes, which he continues to share with MossY’s family. You may send your recollections and stories to Ron at ron@ventron.net.
